Revelation 19:19 The Fiery Lake

Continuing my study of Revelation 19.

Revelation 19:19  Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against the rider on the horse and his army.’

We have seen how the end-time antichrist gathers, by deception and coercion, an alliance of ten kings and their nations and they march against Jerusalem.

Revelation 19:20  ‘But the beast was captured and with him the false prophet who had performed miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshipped his image.’

This verse highlights once again, the absolute necessity of staying close to scripture, and all the more so as we enter the age of deception, with false miraculous signs and wonders that will characterise the end-times, and will persuade us to take the Mark of the Beast.

Everything, absolutely everything, has to be brought to scripture and examined for authenticity and fidelity. Otherwise it must be cast aside. We are not called to be cynical, but we are not called to be gullible either. Great signs and wonders are certainly not proof of authenticity. Every teacher and every prophet, no matter how great or large their ministry, must  allow themselves to be held accountable before their fellow brothers and sisters, and allow themselves to be scrutinised.

The beast, in his short reign, seemed to be invincible.

Revelation 13:4  ‘Who is like the beast? Who can make war against him?

The world will try to convince us that resistance is futile but we must remember, deep in our hearts, that Jesus will make war against him, and defeat him, and cast him into the fiery lake.

Revelation 19:20  ‘The two of them were thrown into the fiery lake of burning sulphur. The rest of them were killed by the sword that came out of the mouth of the rider on the white horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on the flesh.’

The light will conquer the darkness.

And the whole earth will give a jubilant sigh of collective relief!

  • Revelation 21:22 The light of Jerusalem
Jerusalem will be the centre of the world and the nations will tithe their wealth to Jesus. Previously, the kings of the earth have rebelled against Christ Jesus and Jerusalem but now they pay homage.
  • Revelation 21:9 ‘From a mountain…’
This describes the city as having twelve visible foundations, and this suggests it is a stepped pyramid construction. The city would have twelve levels, decreasing in size, each one built on its own foundation, ascending to form a pyramid with the top level being the apex of the city.
  • Revelation 21:6 He who is thirsty
The goods of this world will crumble in our hands, swept away by the latest flood or fire, but the riches of God’s kingdom will stand forever.
  • Revelation 21:4 Changes coming…
Life holds its fair share of tragedies and these words are a soothing balm to those who have held on and endured. The world will not remain the same and the cruelties of life are not our destiny. The curse that has cast such a deep shadow upon this world, caused by the sin of man, will pass away and the blessing of redemption will shine its goodness upon the righteous in Christ Jesus for all eternity.
  • Revelation 21:3 The New Jerusalem
We discussed yesterday that God is bringing us all together, like the proud father that He is. Many of us will be centred at the New Jerusalem and many will live away but yet return on frequent pilgrimages to our new home city. For many of us, our present time is one of suffering and tribulation but this time will pass away and we will enter into an eternity of blessing. And it will have been so worth remaining faithful!
