Revelation 18 Consumed by Fire

Revelation 18 Consumed by Fire

Continuing our study of Revelation 18.

Revelation 18:6  ‘Give her back to her as she has given; pay her back double for what she has done. Mix her a double portion from her own cup. Give her as much torture and grief as the glory and luxury she gave herself.’

When we read scripture, we can be taken aback sometimes, by the punishments that God metres out upon the guilty. We must remember though that Babylon, and all who are a part of her, are not innocent people. Down the ages, this system, and those who drive her corrupt engines, are guilty of the most horrific tortures and persecutions against God’s people.

This verse teaches that these agents of evil will suffer grief instead of glory. It is no more than they deserve.

Revelation 18:7a  ‘In her heart she boasts, “I sit as a queen; I am not a widow and I will never mourn.’

Here is the heart of the satanic Babylon; she stands proud without regard to God.

Isaiah wrote of this:

Isaiah 47:8  ‘Now then, listen, you wanton creature, lounging in your security and saying to yourself, “I am, and there is none besides me.”

She has deceived herself and considers herself immortal and above all things. She lounges in a deluded self-reliance but she is no more than a wanton creature headed for destruction.

Revelation 18:7a   ‘Therefore in one day her plagues will overtake her: death, mourning and famine.’

She has sought a human harvest by coercion and deception but she will reap a bitter harvest of death, mourning and famine. The twisted fruit that she metred out upon others will be her only reward.

Isaiah 47:10  ‘Your wisdom and knowledge mislead you when you say to yourself, “I am, and there is none besides me”. Disaster will come upon you and you will not know how to conjure it away. A calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off with a ransom; a catastrophe that you cannot foresee will suddenly come upon you.’

A catastrophe will befall Babylon and her conjuring tricks will be of no avail.

Revelation 18:8  ‘She will be consumed by fire, for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.’

Never get caught up in the hands of an angry God!

  • Revelation 19:11 Faithful and True
Our testimony is that Jesus has been faithful and true and stood alongside, through every storm that has been thrown at us, and never let go of us ever!
  • Revelation 19:10 The Testimony of Jesus…
One understanding of the testimony of Jesus is that he will return as the radiant King; and he will bring peace and righteousness to this earth when he establishes his kingdom and reigns from Jerusalem.
  • Revelation 19:9 Invited
The Church as a whole will be invited to the wedding as a corporate being but we will also be invited as individuals, by virtue of our personal salvation that we have received. For many of us who are not usually invited to high-society events and who are often left out and behind, this comes as a blessing indeed!
  • Revelation 19:7 Eager Anticipation
In the same way, we are called to look forward to the day when we meet with Christ Jesus, on the day that he returns in power and glory. He is our blessed hope and our lives lived here on earth should be directed towards this coming moment.
  • Revelation 19:7 A Wedding!
I pray that we will live out our salvation with fear and trembling, and walk closely with our Lord, that we might walk with confidence and reassurance, knowing that we will be warmly welcomed and honoured as a guest, wearing the white robes of righteousness.
