Revelation 13 Empire

Revelation 13 Empire

Continuing our study of Revelation 13.

Revelation 13:2   ‘The beast I saw resembled a leopard but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like a lion.’

We explored yesterday how the ‘beast’ can describe both the antichrist and his godless end-time empire. Today we look at the empire.

This verse takes us immediately to Daniel chapter seven where he describes four great beasts rising up from the sea.

Daniel 7:4  ‘The first was like a lion… This describes the Babylonian empire.

Daniel 7:5  ‘And there before me was a second beast which looked like a bear…This describes the Persian-Mede empire.

Daniel 7:6  ‘After that, I looked and there before me was another beast, one that looked like a leopard’. This describes the Greek empire.

Daniel then describes a fourth empire that he does not name. Some would argue this is the Roman empire and others an Islamic Ottoman empire. I would certainly opt for the latter.

These empires reach into the future from Daniel’s perspective.

Revelation 13:1 shows a beast-empire emerging that includes the details of the leopard, bear and lion beast-empires of Daniel 7. It is a composite figure.

Revelation 13:2   ‘The beast I saw resembled a leopard but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like a lion.’

Satan has always expressed himself through evil empires that have plundered Israel in the course of their history. These include the Babylonian, Persian-Mede and Greek empires. These are represented by the leopard, the bear and the lion.

In the end-times, Satan will raise up and empower a leader and his demonic  empire that will perfectly express his evil ambitions by seeking to destroy Israel. His empire will gather and express all the godless evil of previous empires.

This will be the antichrist and his end-time empire.

I will develop this further tomorow. Thank you for reading this…

  • Revelation 16:1 Painful Sores
And so we enter into a grim and melancholy chapter. There is little cheer to be found here. Those who have taken the mark of the beast, hoping to find some form of reward or relief, and having surrendered their soul to the worship of the beast in some shape or form, now find themselves reaping a bitter harvest of ugly and painful sores.

The seven angels are dressed in robes of perfect holiness and they carry the seven plagues that will purge and cleanse this corrupted world. The temple is filled with the glory of God as He brings perfect holiness and righteousness to bear down on this earth.
  • Revelation 15:3 A Deeper Understanding
Please click image to reaf full post and scroll down. If you struggle with the horror of Revelation then you are certainly not alone. The absolute horror reflects the weight of sin that has corrupted man to the core.  But as we embrace these sacred truths, they will bring us deeper, far deeper than ever before, into an understanding of the heart, into an understanding of the perfect holiness of God.
  • Revelation 15:3 Moses and Jesus
Please tap image to see full post The mention of both Moses and Jesus the Lamb in the same sentence strengthens the idea that Jesus will be the perfect Moses, who will deliver Israel, imprisoned or exiled by the antichrist and lead them victoriously back to Jerusalem.
  • Revelation 15:1 Glass and Fire
The bitterness of martyrdom gives way to eternal celebration. Their victory has always been dependent upon the strength that God provides and this is reflected in the harps given to them by God.  And what a glorious celebration. The enemy has been defeated and the bowls of wrath will bring this evil age to a conclusion. The joy of eternity awaits!
