Revelation 11 pt 17

Revelation 11 pt 17

Continuing our study of Revelation 11.

Revelation 11:16  ‘And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshipped God, saying: We give thanks to you Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was…’

Once again, the enigmatic twenty-four elders pave the way in worship. Their hearts are filled with gratitude which is the central core of all adoration.

We saw in the previous verse that Jesus has returned in power and glory, defeated the enemy and taken back control of the kingdoms of this world.

When we really understand the magnitude of this truth then we will find ourselves on our knees before God with hearts of gratitude as well.

In previous chapters, God is described as ‘the One who is, and who was and who is to come’.

In this chapter, God is simply described as ‘the One is and who was’. The ‘is to come’ is conspicuous by its absence.

A mighty shift has happened. Up until now, we have been waiting with eager anticipation for our Lord to return, with all the blessings that he will bring. That has all been in the future. With the return of our Lord, and our resurrection, we will have entered into the time-scape of eternity. There will be no more future to come for we will be dwelling in the eternal present.

And this will be beyond our imagination and expectations.

Revelation 11:17  ‘We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and you have begun to reign.’
