The First Horseman of Revelation 6

This is a series of posts on Revelation 6, featuring the infamous four horsemen of the apocalypse.

Revelation 6:1I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say, in a voice like thunder, “Come”. I looked and there before me was a white horse. It’s rider held a bow and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.’

A few weeks ago we considered that this rider on a white horse is a false and deceptive imposter, the dark antichrist. It has been noted that he carries a bow but there is no mention of any arrows. I would tentatively suggest that this denotes that his powers are as limited as his master. His posturing is a deceptive bluff.

Without doubt he will cause untold devastation in the Middle East which will have repercussions around the world. His shock and awe tactics will cause many to declare ‘Who is like the beast? Who can make war against him?’ (Revelation 13:4a}

But yet Revelation 12:11 declares that the enemy will be overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of the testimony of the saints.

And the final word goes to Paul in 2 Thessalonians 2:8 when he declares that the dark antichrist will be destroyed by Jesus, by the breath of his mouth and the splendour of his coming.

2 Thessalonians 2:8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendour of his coming.’

In the dark days to come, never forget that the dark antichrist, like his master, will have only short-lived and limited powers. He may have an impressive bow but his quiver is actually empty. He will try to intimidate us but we have the victory in Christ Jesus!
