Philadelphia 3

This is a series of posts on the letters of Jesus to the seven churches in Revelation 2&3. This is my third post on the church of Philadelphia. To see all my previous posts on these two chapters, please look down at the end for a full list.

Revelation 3:11  ‘I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have so that no-one will take your crown.’

There is a simple and wonderful truth here. I would like to dedicate this post this morning to all those around the world who face the bitterness of persecution.

As we approach the turmoil of the end-times we might be tempted into believing that we need to gain something. However, we have been given everything we need to endure.

2 Peter 1:3  ‘His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.’

If we are in Christ Jesus then all we need is to depend upon our Saviour who has called us into glory.

Revelation 3:11  ‘I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have…’

All we have to do is hold on to what we have been given. The enemy may try to convince us that we need a special secret anointing that we have not received yet. Beware of his trickery.

He may also try to convince us that we are not strong enough or lacking in some way, to withstand persecution.

Ephesians 6:10  ‘Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

His mighty power will be working within us enabling us to be conquerors. Rest in his presence and know his power is protecting you.

Ephesians 6:11  ‘Put on the full armour of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.’

We do not need to run towards or away from the enemy. We do not need to fight any battles in our own strength although the enemy might very well tempt you to come out and do so.

Instead, take your stand and stay protected within the presence of God and allow Him to protect you and carry you through.

Psalm 27:5  ‘For in the day of trouble, He will keep me safe in His dwelling, He will hide me in the shelter of His tabernacle and set me high upon a rock. Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me.’

We do not need to take new ground or fight some new fight. Hide in the shelter of His tabernacle. Do not be afraid when the enemy surrounds you.  All that is needed is that we stand our ground and hold onto the crown that we have already been given by our Saviour!

The Lord Jesus Christ will never let go of us.

Tomorrow we look at the strength we have been given to overcome and endure. To get there, please click HERE.
