Philadelphia 2

This is a series of posts on the letters of Jesus to the seven churches in Revelation 2&3. This is my second post on the church of Philadelphia. To see all my previous posts on these two chapters, please look down at the end for a full list.

Please either listen to the audio clip above or read the notes below or both at the same time!

Revelation 3:8a  “I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.”

Jesus is not asking the Philadelphians to be super-heroes. He respects and appreciates their weakness. But yet, through their relationship with Christ Jesus, they have found the inner strength to keep the Lord’s word and not deny his name, despite the pressures of the world around them.

2 Corinthians 12:10a  ‘For when I am weak, then I am strong.

When Paul felt weak and unable to accomplish what the Lord was asking of him, then he would pray fervently, come into the presence of Jesus and be strengthened to accomplish his work.

Paul’s weaknesses would drive him to his knees in prayer where he would be strengthened by the Lord to stand up and walk in faith once more.

May we all know this essential and beautiful truth. Our own inner strengths will come to nothing if we depend upon our own proud abilities. The Lord will not hesitate to reduce us to nothing in order for his strength to be worked into us.

May the Lord grant us the strength to stand firm and endure until the end.

Tomorrow we explore standing our ground in the face of peresecution. To get there now, please click HERE.
