Nehemiah’s Gates 10

We have been exploring the names of Nehemiah’s 10 Gates and seen how they describe the gospel

It is wonderful to see how the gospel is embroidered into the very fabric of scripture.

Please either listen to the short audio clip below or read the notes or both at the same time!

10   The Inspection Gate

Nehemiah 3:31aAfter him, Malchijah, one of the goldsmiths, carried out repairs as far as the house of the temple servants and if the merchants, in front of the Inspection Gate and as far as the upper room of the corner.’

The Inspection Gate is also known as the Gate of Judgement.

The whole subject of judgement is a tough one, and too big to be covered in such a short post as this. Many will try to water down their understanding of judgement to suit their own needs. However, we will need to put aside our own theories and put scripture first. The God of perfect righteousness is also the God of perfect judgement.

Revelation 2:23a  ‘Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches heart and minds and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.’

For those of us who have responded to the gospel, then Jesus knows exactly who we are and will reward us accordingly. This should shake us out of our selfish laziness and be an incentive to live holy lives in his service!

Revelation 22:12Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me and I will give to everyone according to what he has done.’

But to those who have rejected the gospel and selfishly preferred their own darkness, they will judged by God at the end. Even death will not spare them. There is a shocking reality here that should drive us to prayer.

2 Timothy 4:1  ‘In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead…’

The Inspection Gate therefore pertains to the end-time judgement.

Tomorrow We will bring all this to a conclusion and see how these gates all fit together to form the gospel of Christ Jesus.
