A Down-To-Earth Heaven – part one

 Heaven on Earth

Please either listen to the four minute audio above or read the notes below or both at the same time!

This is the first in a series of seven mini-articles focusing on the idea that heaven will not be an abstract disembodied place above the stars but rather a glorious down-to-earth Kingdom, here on a restored planet earth, with Christ Jesus ruling and reigning from his throne in Jerusalem.

I remember a time, not so long ago, when heaven was depicted as sitting around on clouds, strumming harps and eating endless rounds of Philadelphia cheese sandwiches.

The subject of heaven was rarely preached or taught from the pulpit of the church for fear it might seem…well…rather boring!

Fortunately a much more real and robust picture is presented these days of an earthly kingdom ruled by King Jesus down here on a restored planet earth. Heaven will invade earth as Jesus takes his place on the throne in Jerusalem and rules with perfect righteousness.

We see a glorious taste of this already, every time a soul is saved or a broken body healed, but the full expression and revelation of this Kingdom will be ushered in when Christ Jesus returns in power and glory.

God did not create the earth only to abandon it. He will certainly need to cleanse the earth and break the curse laid upon it but under the Lordship of Jesus the earth will thrive and blossom!

Zechariah 8:3  ‘This is what the Lord says: “I will return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of the Lord Almighty will be called the Holy Mountain.”

Zechariah 8:7  “I will save my people from the countries of the east and the west. I will bring them back to live in Jerusalem, they will be my people and I will be faithful and righteous to them as their God.”

Zechariah 8:12  “The seed will grow well, the vine will yield its fruit, the ground will produce its crops and the heavens will drop their dew. I will give all these things as an inheritance to the remnant of this people.”

Our blessed hope is the return of Christ Jesus and the beautiful Kingdom that he will establish on this earth. This hope will bless us today, as we go about our daily tasks and devote ourselves to prayer and worship and moving in the miraculous.

Titus 2:13 ‘While we wait for the blessed hope – the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ…’

This hope will fill our hearts with joy and strengthen us in the times of darkness. This is not a message to be hidden away in the cupboard but rather it is a message to be proclaimed from the highest of rooftops!

This hope will bless us and bring us into a deep communion with our Lord as we passionately cry: Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus!

Revelation 22:17 ‘The Spirit and the bride say “Come“!

Hasten the day!

Thank you for listening. Tomorrow we go fruit-picking!
