The Return of Christ Jesus

Please either listen to the 2 minute audio or read the notes or both. Thanks!

Just about every Christian is in agreement that Christ Jesus will return at some point in the future.

Jesus’ first advent was as a humble servant and many turned away and ignored him.

John 1:10  ‘He was in the world and although the world was made through him, the world did not recognise him.’

His second advent will be as a warrior King. No-one will be able to ignore him and all must face his judgements.

Revelation 1:7  ‘Look, he is coming with the clouds and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him.’

Jesus will come to bring justice to a corrupt and broken world. He will establish his earthly reign from his throne in Jerusalem.

Isaiah 9;7  ‘Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom.’

I hope it is not too gloomy and pessimistic to say that the world is in a pretty horrible place right now and does not seem to be getting better any time soon. There are good things happening, sweet mercies, signs of hope, signs of wonder and much to be thankful for. But our blessed hope, our only hope, is the return of Christ Jesus to establish his throne.

As the world slips into an ever deepening darkness, may the Church rise to the occasion, and render the cry of its heart:

Come, Lord Jesus,’

May this cry echo around the world, echo around the heavenly courts, and may it echo in our hearts today.

Hasten the day…

Maranatha!
